1. Introduction.

EducationNC (“us”, “we”, or “our”) operates the https://www.ednc.org website (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy (“Privacy Policy”) informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, disclosure, and protection of your information when you use our Service. We will not use or share your information except as described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information Collection.

We use your Personal Information (defined below) for providing and improving our Service, identifying and communicating with you, responding to your requests/inquiries, servicing your financial contributions to EducationNC, and improving our services. It is always your choice whether or not to provide that Personal Information. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of your information in accordance with this policy. Unless otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy, terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in our Terms of Service, accessible at https://www.ednc.org/terms-of-service.

“Personal Information” includes information that alone or when in combination with other information may be used to readily identify, contact, or locate you (e.g., name, address, telephone number, email address, and location). We do not consider Personal Information to include information that has been anonymized so that it does not allow a third party to easily identify a specific individual.

a. Log Data.

We collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Service (“Log Data”). This Log Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, links clicked on to other third party sites from the Service and other statistics. In addition, we may use third party services that collect, monitor and analyze this type of information in order to increase our Service’s functionality. These third party service providers have their own privacy policies addressing how they use such information. Information on our third party service providers will be made available upon request.

b. Using the Services.

We collect information you post through the Service. For example, when you interact with other Registered Users by commenting on stories or submitting a contribution, we will collect the information you provide in such submissions, including any Personal Information.

c. Financial Information.

When you make payments, donations or other financial contributions through the Service, you may need to provide Personal Information, such as your credit card number and billing address. That information will be provided directly to our third party payment processor. EducationNC will not have access to and will not store or maintain your credit card information on our servers.

d. Social Sign On.

You may be given the option to access or register for some features of the Service through the use of your user name and passwords for certain services provided by third parties (each, an “Linked Account”), such as through the use of your Facebook credentials through Facebook Connect, or otherwise have the option to authorize an Linked Account to provide Personal Information or other information to us. By authorizing us to connect with an Linked Account, you authorize us to access and store your name, email address(es), date of birth, gender, current city, profile picture URL, and other information that the Linked Account makes available to us, and to use and disclose it in accordance with this Privacy Policy. You should check your privacy settings on each Linked Account to understand and change the information sent to us through each Linked Account. Please review each Linked Account’s terms of use and privacy policies carefully before using their services and connecting to our Service.

e. Cookies and Related Technologies.

Cookies are files with a small amount of data, which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies, pixel tags, web beacons or other similar technologies are sent to your browser from a web site and transferred to your device. We may use these technologies to collect information in order to improve our Service for you. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. The “Help” feature on most browsers provides information on how to accept cookies, disable cookies or to notify you when receiving a new cookie. If you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some features of our Service and we recommend that you leave them turned on.

f. Do Not Track Disclosure.

Some browsers include a “Do Not Track” preference to inform websites that you do not want to be tracked. Tracking means collecting information from users of a website as they move across the Internet to different websites over time. It is not the same as using or collecting information in connection with a single website. While we limit our collection and use of your Personal Information according to this Policy, the “Do Not Track” signal is not uniform and our Website may not be set up to interpret or respond to “Do Not Track” signals communicated by your browser.

3. Information Use.

a. Internal and Service-Related Usage.

We use information, including Personal Information to complete a transaction or do something that you have asked us to do, including to process  donations or other financial contributions, and may provide it to third parties to allow us to facilitate our Service. We may use and retain any data we collect to provide and improve our Service.

b. Communications.

We may use your Personal Information to contact you with newsletters, marketing or promotional materials and other information that may be of interest to you. We may send email to the email address you provide to us to verify your account and for informational and operational purposes, such as account management, customer service, or system maintenance and to alert you to product upgrades, special offers, updated information, and other new products and services from EducationNC. You may opt out of receiving any, or all, of these communications from us by following the unsubscribe link or instructions provided in any email we send.

c. Donation Attribution.

If you make a financial or other donation to EducationNC (e.g., become a Member), EducationNC may use any Personal Information you specify to be used as the attribution for your contribution in connection with any lists of donors to EducationNC, including any donor lists on the Service. If you do not want your Personal Information used in this manner, you must mark the “Anonymous” box next to the “Attribution” form field on our Service (or other similar indication) when making your contribution. Electing your donation to be “Anonymous” in this manner will not prevent us from including your Personal Information in our internal donor database and will not prohibit us from utilizing your Personal Information as set forth in this Privacy Policy.

d. Feedback.

Any feedback, questions, comments, suggestions, ideas, or the like that you send to EducationNC (“Feedback”) will be treated as being non-confidential and nonproprietary, and EducationNC will be free to use such information for any purpose whatsoever including, but not limited to, developing and marketing products and services incorporating the information. We may publish on our Service or in any medium now known or unknown, the Feedback that we receive. In doing so, we may edit your written Feedback for clarity or brevity and identify you by name and location as the author of the Feedback.
