Our teachers of the year are jumping for a cause…

On July 31, Mariah Morris, the 2019 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Carolina Teacher of the Year, announced the jump on Facebook: “We proudly announce that on Aug. 9th we will join the Golden Knights to Jump for a Cause. Our passion for the advocacy of public education in North Carolina is what joins our 2019 TOY cohort together.” The teachers are jumping to raise awareness about a cause they are passionate about. Learn more about the leadership of Morris, our regional teachers of the year, who they are, and what they care about this week at EdNC. Follow along on Twitter at #EdfromtheEDGE.

Today Liz Bell will be covering the ribbon-cutting for a new PK-12 school in Jones County. According to a press release, “The new facility will replace Jones Senior High School as well as the middle school and one elementary school. The school was built with the help of funds from the NC Education Lottery through the Needs-Based Public School Capital Fund. The new school will be the first school in NC completed using those grant funds. Jones County received a grant of $15 million from lottery proceeds from the fund. Jones County PK-12 is a world-class, energy positive building with an emphasis on high performance building design.”

Stay tuned. The 2019 results of the 51st annual PDK Poll of the Public’s Attitudes Toward the Public Schools will be released at 7pm tonight!
